About YardBuild Tools

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Who we are

YardBuild Tools publishes free, browser-based DIY calculators for outdoor material volumes and light framing geometry: how much gravel or mulch to order, roof pitch and slope, common-rafter line length, and deck stair / stringer planning numbers. We are an independent calculator publisher — not a contractor, not a licensed engineering firm, and not affiliated with any similarly named website.

How the calculators work

Every tool runs entirely in your browser. There is no account and no project cloud. Core formulas live in shared TypeScript modules and are covered by automated checks so default worked examples match the on-screen outputs. Each calculator page documents the math, shows a worked example, and links related materials.

Sources we cite

Guidance notes point to public references we have traced: university extension mulch depth sheets, NRCS / DOT practice notes for aggregate, asphalt-shingle manufacturer and ARMA slope limits, and municipal reprints of IRC stair language (plus ICC Digital Codes entry points for primary sections). See the full list on our Sources page. We do not invent ASTM numbers, fake PE stamps, or copyrighted IRC span-table values.

What this is not

These tools are for planning and material ballparks only. They are not stamped engineering, architectural design, permitting, legal advice, or code approval. Roof, rafter, and stair work still needs your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and, when required, a licensed professional. Local code editions and manufacturer instructions always control.
